The division started with the Highway Mail in 1949 followed by the South Coast Sun in (1971). The success of these two publications gave rise to establishing a further six titles.
The establishing of the Highway Printers came about due to the growth and success of these Durban based community newspapers and today this very busy printing factory, which is situated on the same premises as six of the local titles. To meet this demand, Highway Printers invested in a state-of-the-art Man Roland Uniset 60 Coldset Web Press in addition to its Goss Urbanite Press.
The focus of local gives each newspaper title a sense of ownership by the very people they speak to and are read by. With experts in each field of media the teams are able to supply professionalism in journalism, sales and marketing, design and reproduction as well as high quality printing.
Caxton Durban Newspapers is also proud of its free monthly community lifestyle magazine - Get It Highway/Berea. The magazine is designed to offer an up market environment, while adhering to the winning community focus formula of the newspapers.
The Durban branch also produces the AutoDealer,a weekly motoring supplement that is inserted into the Durban & Environs Caxton Community newspapers. Four regional editions are published each week with a total circulation of 363,800.
